Phi Phi Islands

Phi Phi Islands by Boat from Phuket

Discover Thailand’s most iconic island paradise with crystal-clear waters, dramatic limestone cliffs, and unforgettable marine encounters.

Thailand's Most Iconic Island Paradise

The Phi Phi Islands are arguably the most recognisable island tourist destination in the entire Thailand region. As such, given the significant tourist numbers that Phi Phi handles, its bays, beaches and reefs are subjected to immense strain that leaves them incredibly fragile.

A thoughtfully designed Phi Phi Islands day trip from Phuket lets you enjoy all that the destination has to offer while keeping your environmental impact to a minimum. It’s all thanks to the design of the Simba Sea Trips tour where guests traverse the waters in a small, friendly group, leaving Phuket early and reaching the main destinations in the absence of major crowds.

This is a Phi Phi boat tour that places a priority on comfort. Trusting the knowledge of expert local crews so that you can spend more time embracing the stunning locations and less time stuck in queues.

Why Visit the Phi Phi Islands

Sustainable Tourism

Since 2004, Phi Phi has rebuilt with greater emphasis on sustainable tourism and protecting the islands for future generations.

Responsible Tourism: Placing your trust in responsible boat tour operators is the primary way visitors can help keep the Phi Phi Islands beautiful for future generations to enjoy.

Highlights at a Glance

There is no shortage of highlights within the Phi Phi Islands. Here are the most memorable.

Maya Bay

Always a spectacular location yet it didn't appear on the radar for most tourists until the release of Hollywood movie, The Beach. An Instagram worthy view with white sandy beach and sparkling blue waters surrounded by soaring cliffs. Maya Bay is now carefully managed to protect from overtourism.

Pileh Lagoon

The incredible Pileh Lagoon is a stunning inlet found in close proximity to Maya Bay. The Lagoon stretches approximately 600 metres and its clear waters make it an ideal snorkeling spot. With a narrow entrance point and tall limestone cliffs, it feels like a hidden gem.

Bamboo Island

A less common destination for most tours, Bamboo Island is a highlight for those fortunate enough to have it in their itinerary. Measuring just 0.27 km², the island is easily accessible yet feels hidden away. The surrounding waters make it an unmissable stop.

Viking Cave

One of the most notable sites in the Phi Phi Islands. A striking cave situated at the base of limestone cliffs, known for traditional bird's nest harvesting and rock markings. While not open to the public, tour boats slow to the entrance for photos.

Monkey Beach

The star attractions are the monkeys! In addition to the 150m shoreline with powdery white sands and emerald waters, visitors are greeted with Macaques who forage along the shore. Tours observe from offshore to preserve their habitat.

The Simba Sea Trips Difference

While most tours follow a similar route, how you experience Phi Phi can feel very different depending on which operator you travel with. Simba breaks the mould by ensuring tour groups are kept small, departures are earlier, and the experience is more relaxed, spacious and personal.

With an average group size of around 14-16 guests, and capped at approximately 18 adults, there is room to move, stretch out, and enjoy the view in comfort.

Phi Phi's Main Islands and Bays

While all six islands feature incredible scenery, Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Leh remain the most frequented.

The Inhabited Island

Phi Phi Don

Phi Phi Don is the only island of the six that is inhabited and therefore is the main hub for ferries, accommodation, and exploration. The central village is situated on a narrow strip of land with sea on either side between Ton Sai Bay and Loh Dalum Bay.

The village contains small houses, beach bars and local dining options, in addition to small hotels and low-rise accommodation. From the Andaman Sea, you will witness sandy bays with limestone cliffs set as a backdrop, ample longtail boats navigating their way in and out and will also observe the ridge that leads to the famous Phi Phi viewpoint.

The Uninhabited Paradise

Phi Phi Leh & Maya Bay

Whilst Phi Phi Leh is uninhabited, it remains an exceptional tourism destination. Wild and enclosed, with towering cliff faces that drop almost vertically into the sea, the island is blessed with magnificent clear waters and tranquility.

Maya Bay’s natural beauty has to be seen to be believed. Due to its popularity, Maya Bay is carefully managed via strict national park rules that limit daily visitor numbers and restrict where boats can anchor. Simba handles permits, time slots, and national park requirements behind the scenes.

Hidden Gems

Bamboo Island & Monkey Beach

Bamboo Island is a low, almost circular island edged by white sand and shallow, clear water. Depending on conditions, it is often used as a snorkelling and beach stop with an easy entry from the beach.

Monkey Beach is a small bay where wild macaques live in the trees and forage along the rocks and sand. Simba’s approach emphasises responsible wildlife viewing – in most cases you will watch from the boat while your guide explains why feeding or approaching the monkeys is discouraged.
