Introducing the New Simba Phi Phi Sunset Tour
Simba Sea Trips is excited to announce the upcoming launch of their newest tour: The Phi Phi Sunset Shark Tour, setting sail for the first time in November 2025. This tour is an exciting alternative to the supremely popular Phi Phi Island sunrise tour, or as an additional tour option if you enjoyed our sunrise tour, as it departs later in the day when the Phi Phi islands can be seen in a different light. The new tour is ideal for those looking to witness the beauty of the Phi Phi Islands region away from the crush that comes with the daytime crowds.
Why This Tour Is Ideal
Unlike our much adored sunrise tour to the Phi Phi Islands, our new sunset tour reverses the timeline, allowing you to bypass the early morning wakeup and to experience the Phi Phi Islands at dusk. However, while the sun’s departure for the day is a highlight and is guaranteed to fill up your photo library’s, the real highlight is the opportunity to encounter harmless blacktip reef sharks, which sets this tour apart from all others.
We deliver this experience in the most intimate way possible, with small tour groups capped at 18 guests, which ensures maximum comfort, attention, and the space to appreciate the experience to the fullest.
What You Can Expect From the Day
1. A Relaxed Departure & Warm Welcome
Your day begins with hotel transfer to the marina. Upon arrival, enjoy light breakfast snacks, tea, or coffee during a quick orientation, a relatively gentle start before the excitement really kicks off.
2. Snorkeling & Picnic at Bamboo Island
The first stop at Bamboo Island welcomes you with white sands and vibrant coral just offshore. Dive in with provided snorkeling gear to explore a vibrant underwater world where schools of colorful fish dart among stunning coral formations. Whether you’re a novice or an experienced snorkeler, our expert crew is ready to assist and ensure a memorable experience.
3. Wild Encounters at Monkey Beach & Viking Cave
Next, cruise past the Viking Cave, marveling at its the ancient drawings that adorn the cave that are believed to illustrate historic seafaring vessels. We then continue to Monkey Beach, where playful macaques entertain you from a safe distance aboard the boat.
4. Scenic Cruise Through Pileh Bay
Glide through the emerald waters of the world-famous Pileh Lagoon, surrounded by towering limestone cliff that help paint a visual masterpiece that is perfect for taking a gluttony of insta-worthy photos. This breathtaking lagoon is a true natural wonder, and one that has to be seen to be believed.
5. Shark Bay: Up Close with Reef Sharks
The star of the tour, we anchor up at Shark Bay and experience the thrill of swimming among gentle reef sharks in their natural habitat. With clear visibility thanks to the incredible water quality, you’ll likely also spot a wide array of colourful marine life including clownfish, starfish, and more.
6. Iconic Maya Bay
Perfectly timed to arrive at the historically over-crowded (but incredibly alluring) Maya Bay as the last of the tour boats depart, our boat discreetly glides in for a peaceful and respectful appreciation of this sensational bay without the crowds. Wander around barefoot on the soft shoreline or swim in the glorious, turquoise waters in as close to complete isolation as you can get at Maya Bay.
7. Sunset, Reflection & Return
As evening draws in, your return trip offers a spectacular sunset over the Andaman Sea. Sip a refreshing drink, soak in the day’s memories, and capture one last magical photo at a scenic viewpoint before arriving back at the harbor around 7:30 pm.
Why It’s a Tour Worthy of Consideration
Unique Marine Encounter
There’s something magical about slipping into the water just as the day begins to fade. In Shark Bay, that magic is amplified by the sight of blacktip reef sharks gliding through the shallows. They’re completely harmless, but there’s still a little rush of adrenaline when you first spot that sleek silhouette below. Then you notice how the late afternoon light turns the water gold, and the whole scene feels surreal, part wild encounter, part picture perfect moment. It’s the kind of experience that lingers long after you’ve dried off.
The Luxury of a Small Group Tour
One of the biggest perks of this trip? You’re not sharing it with fifty other people. Simba keeps the group small, just enough to meet a few fellow adventurers, but never so many that you’re fighting for a view or waiting your turn to get in the water. The crew knows your name, remembers where you’ve snorkeled before, and makes sure you’re comfortable from start to finish. It feels more like you’ve been invited along for a private day out, rather than booked onto a production-line tour.
A Balanced Itinerary
This isn’t a race from one location to the next. The tour has a rhythm, starting with the calm, turquoise shallows of Bamboo Island, moving to the cheeky charm of Monkey Beach, cruising into the jaw-dropping cliffs of Pileh Bay, and then easing into that once-in-a-lifetime swim with the sharks. By the time you’re watching the sunset from the boat, drink in hand, the day has unfolded so naturally you almost forget it was planned at all.
Conservation A Key Consideration
If you’ve seen photos of Maya Bay, you’ll understand why it needs protecting. Simba works closely with the park rules, making sure visits are respectful and leave no trace. The same goes for every stop, wildlife is observed, not disturbed, and the crew takes care to preserve the beauty you’ve come to enjoy. It’s a small but important detail that makes you feel good about the journey you’re taking.
A Comfortable Experience That Lets You Relax
From the moment you’re picked up at your hotel, the day just… flows. Your gear is ready, your drinks are cold, there’s fresh fruit on board, and you never have to think about park fees or where to store your bag. The speedboat is roomy and smooth, the crew knows exactly when to chat and when to let you soak it all in, and by the end of the day you realize you’ve spent the whole trip doing nothing but enjoying yourself, and that’s exactly how it should be.
