Soak up the fun at the Phuket Full Moon Party
The Ultimate Full Moon Party No doubt if you are party-inclined and traveling to Phuket, you’ve likely heard of the Phuket Full Moon Party. The event occurs monthly and draws thousands of visitors to Haad Rin Beach on the Koh Pha Ngan island. How do you get to the Phuket full moon party Most visitors to the region venture to Koh Pha Ngan from either Phuket or Bangkok’s central areas. From Phuket – The journey can be long but it is well worth the trip. Most Phuket visitors take a bus or minivan to Donsak. This journey takes approximately 5 hours. Once at Donsak you’ll need to purchase a ticket and board the ferry for the 90 minute trek to Koh Samui. From Bangkok – Without a doubt the fastest way to Koh Pha Ngan is via light plane to Koh Samui from where you’ll board a ferry for the final leg to the island. If you’d prefer not to fly, there are a range of budget-friendly overnight bus trips with tickets available from most Bangkok travel agents. Staying on the Island There is accommodation available close to the venue of the koh phangan full moon parties however they fill up fast as the monthly event approaches. Our recommendation is that unless you are unwilling to stay up all night, that you book accommodation on one of the surrounding islands and party all night. This affords you the ultimate experience while also allowing you to catch a morning ferry back to your accommodation for a well earned nap. Dressing up There’s no better way to embrace the thailand full moo party than by suiting up. There is a range of colorful hats, clothing and paint available from local vendors at Koh Phangan so there is no way to load up your backpack prior to venturing across. A full ensemble will set you back a very inexpensive 300-450 Baht. What to expect at the Thailand Full Moon Party Think Crazy and Wild. You’ll be confronted with a wall of people all happy and ready to party. There’ll be people from all other the world who have congregated on the beach and a quick glance around will reveal DJ stalls, dance stages, fire dancers and much, much more. Alcohol is everywhere. Take a short walk along the beach and you’ll be greeted with stand after stand selling giant cocktails moulded into small plastic buckets that will take a mountain of work to finish. The party vibe does not stop from sunset through to sunrise and you’ll have accomplished something very special if you are still standing when the sun rises in the morning! What to watch out for As always, despite the party atmosphere and happy vibes, you’ll need to be careful. This includes making sure to keep a close eye on your drink AT ALL TIMES to ensure that nobody has access to its contents. Also, we’d strongly advise wearing sneakers, or at the very least sandals, to ensure that your feet aren’t subject to broken glass or any other foreign objects that are littered along the beach. While we’ve never seen broken glass during the full moon party, it is always better to be safe than sorry. Finally, many of the activities are fun and well worth a try but please be aware that injuries can happen. This is especially true of the lit jump ropes as we have seen in the past many full moon party attendees getting treated for minor burns and scraps as a result. What if the Full Moon Party seems a little full on Obviously, the full moon party is not going to be for everyone. For those not looking for an intense party vibe then a relaxing boat tour of the beautiful Phuket beaches is likely a more enjoyable choice. Simba Sea Trips offers boat tours to many of the hottest tourist destinations in the Phuket region including Phi Phi, Phang Nga and Krabi at a time of day that avoids many of the crowds that other tours cannot avoid. Tonsai Beach Thailand: Ultimate Guide
Tonsai Beach Thailand Experience the fun and adventure at Tonsai Beach Thailand! While everyone knows that Southern Thailand is guaranteed to deliver white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters, and jagged cliff faces, finding a beach location rife with activities can be a bit more difficult. Well, don’t despair, you are in luck. Located within the Krabi Province, Tonsai Beach provides hours and hours of fun for tourists and locals alike. So if you’d like to learn more about this outstanding location then keep reading as we outline all you need to know about this great Thai location. Why choose Tonsai Beach Unlike the neighbouring Railay and Ao Nang beaches, Tonsai has not been over-run to the same level by tourists, meaning the beach has retained much of its allure. While you’ll be fighting tooth and nail for beach space in the hot summer months at Ao Nang and Railay, at Tonsai you’ll generally not experience the same difficulties. But with that said, the entire Krabi region is surrounded by glorious beaches and deep turquoise waters and is well worth a visit. The best way to do so is with a seat aboard a Simba Sea Trips Krabi boat tour so book your seat today! But for now, let’s focus our attention on the wide range of things to do while at Tonsai Beach! Chill on the Beach With some bars in close proximity, relaxing with an inexpensive beer in hand while you soak in the sights would have to be the most enjoyable way to spend the day. Leaning back with a drink will afford you ample time to watch the nearby rock climbers as they navigate the limestock rock that surrounds the area. Make sure to also undertake a ‘beach chill’ while witnessing the sun disappearing over the horizon in the evenings as this is the perfect way to end the ultimate relaxing day. Rock Climbing the Limestone Cliffs When it comes to rock climbing adventures on your Thai holiday, it is hard to beat Tonsai Beach. Tonsai caters to all levels of expertise, whether ultra-experienced or the complete novice. For the beginner, there are specialist shops nearby that can provide you with all the gear and guidance required to undertake this ‘must-do’ activity. For the more advanced climber, gear can be rented from the specialist shops and more advanced routes can be pointed out. Then it is completely up to you to venture onto the cliffs and have the experience of a lifetime. Practice some Yoga What better way to get in touch with the serenity and quiet surrounds than with a yoga session at one of the accredited locations surrounding Tonsai. Simply drop in to Tonsai Yoga, Flower of Life or Base Camp and for a small fee you can undertake this incredibly calming activity. There are various types of yoga available to those in attendance and different classes are run throughout the day. If Yoga is not your thing, then might we suggest taking a Tai Chi class. These classes are a bit more active and are also available at Base Camp. Kayak in the calm waters If you are looking for a relaxing experience but one that allows you to burn some calories then kayaking around Tonsai is the perfect activity for you. Visitors are able to hire a kayak for the whole day from the close-by cafes and bars for a low price. The freedom that a kayak hire affords is what really sold us on this activity. Setting out from Tonsai Beach, you can trek across the calm waters towards Railay Beach or if fitter than most, all the way across to Chicken Island. Pack a lunch, pack some snacks and water, and set off for a wonderful day of sun and fun. The most important factor to consider though, prior to hiring the kayak, is a quick check of the weather to make sure that mother nature is not going to throw a spanner in the works. Test your balance on a slackline You’ve probably seen them erected in local parks, but if you’ve never tried it, slacklining can be a wonderful experience and a good laugh. Slacklining involves setting up a long piece of flat webbing that is anchored around two points. It draws its inspiration from tightrope walking and requires great balance to master. For the beginner try and find a set up that is low to the ground to minimize the likelihood of injury, although slacklining is considered very safe compared to the alternatives. Join a diving tour One of the most commonly experienced activities for the uninitiated when in Thailand is diving. The calm water conditions coupled with cheap prices and plenty of local competition makes this a must-do for those who’ve long had it listed on their bucket lists. Tonsai is home to a number of companies who provide all the equipment necessary to cross this activity off. You’ll be transported to some of the most idyllic locations possible and swimming among the fishes is an experience hard to match. For those not as confident in the depths of the water, snorkeling phuket offers a much more sedate time but is no less spectacular. Most local shops around Tonsai Beach will stock the necessary equipment required for a day of snorkeling. Soothe tired muscles with a local massage If you haven’t already, and even if you have (they are well worth repeating!), a Thai massage is an absolute must. A number of Thai massage parlours possess a lovely view of Tonsai Beach and therefore further enhance the relaxing experience. Not only will you walk away at the end of the day with a great experience but likely in a lot more comfort than with which you first walked in. Walk along Tonsai Pier To get a real feel for the area and the popularity of the place, we’d suggest venturing down to Tonsai Pier Phi Phi and watching the boats venture past. The pier is often
Relaxing at Gorgeous Kamala Beach
Travel down to Kamala Beach Kamala Beach is an extremely popular beach located along the main road that heads down from Patong Beach. It is an ideal destination for tourists and considered one of the best things to do in Phuket. This is in large part thanks to a combination of soft white sand, crystal clear waters, a shopping area and a variety of restaurant options for those visiting the region. There is also a great selection of hotels available within the Kamala region that provides plenty of selection for those looking to stay in the Kamala area for a sun-drenched holiday. These hotels vary from those that are ideal for young families through to those that are more suited for people looking to stay in romantic hotels. The best things about Kamala: Excellent conditions for surfing and other water activities A great range of hotels to choose from High quality restaurants with several located right along the beach Not over-run with beach loungers The less positive aspects of Kamala: Not the best scene for those looking for an active nightlife setting Not a great opportunity for sight seeing with the exception of the beach itself Dining out It was not that long ago that the variety of food venues at Kamala was rather limited. Nowadays, there are ample opportunities to indulge in delicious cuisine. Some of the older restaurants remain and these places are great for tourists looking for a cheap, slower paced venue to satisfy an empty stomach after a morning’s swim. However, nowadays the range is much more diverse and provides choice for those looking for a more upscale dining experience. The more upscale places are generally located within the Resorts and Hotels that surround Kamala Beach and most feature picturesque panoramic views of the region. The most popular of which include Silk at Andara Resort Phuket and Sunset Grill at the Hyatt Regency. Quenching your Thirst While there is a significant number of dining options along Kamala Beach, the choice of night spots are much fewer. Incomparable to an area like Bangla Road, Kamala Beach relies more on the recent arrival of HQ Beach Club and Cafe Del Mar for their nightlife. These two establishments have without question lifted the nightlife profile of Kamala Beach but it is definitely not renowned for its ‘after-dark’ activities. In addition, there are a few remnants of the old Kamala Beach nightlife, with these smaller bars relying more on drawing in potential customers through the friendly company that accompanies a night time drink within these venues than the venue itself. Hotels worth considering Due to the increased popularity of the Kamala Beach region over the past few decades, the selection of hotels available to visitors has dramatically increased. You are hard pressed to go wrong no matter which hotel you choose for your stay with some of the best hotels in Phuket located in the region. With that said, there are a few that we consider more memorable than others: MOST LUXURIOUS – Hyatt Regency One of the most recent additions to the Kamala Beach area, the Hyatt Regency contains 201 guestrooms and is situated right near the beach on a terraced hill. It features high-quality restaurants, an outdoor pool, and a 24 hour fitness centre. It also is home to 6 large sized meeting rooms and is therefore also suitable for corporate getaways. BEST FOR FAMILIES – Novotel The Novotel is our pick for the best hotel suitable for the whole family. This establishment provides a children’s club, pool, and supervised care facilities that makes it an ideal venue for those holidaymakers travelling with young children. The hotel contains 166 guestrooms and the close proximity to the beach makes it an ideal choice for those with infants and toddlers. BEST LOCATION – Kamala Beach Resort The Kamala Beach Resort is located in very close proximity to Phuket Fantasea and possesses an extremely impressive outdoor pool for those looking to escape the beach and sunbake in a glorious pool setting. This enormous venue contains 353 guestrooms and also possesses 2 large restaurants and 4 bars. It is perfectly situated between Fantasea and Kamala Beach – a 5 minute walk to either. While the Hyatt Regency, Novotel and Kamala Beach Resort our our favourites, there are many other great options to choose from for singles, couples, families and anyone in between. Activities around Kamala Beach While not known for providing a laundry-list of activities to do for families and couples alike, the Kamala Beach region does provide some great offerings for those visiting the area. The most notable of which is Phuket Fantasea Park. This incredible park venue is well-worth a visit and you’ll see stage performance featuring incredible displays performed by acrobats. The park also is jam-packed with shops and games immersed within an attractive village. Within the Kamala Beach surrounds there is also a fresh local market that contains a large amount of fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as many other goods and snacks. With the exception of the Fantasea Park and the local market , there is not much else to see in terms of ‘off-beach’ attractions but that’s plenty fine for most as the beach, Fantasea Park and the fresh market are more than enough for most. So what is the Beach like itself? Kamala Beach itself is packed with a large amount of activities for beach goers including snorkeling and surfing. The time of year dictates what activity you would want to undertake. If you are at Kamala Beach between December and April then snorkeling would be ideal given the calmer water conditions. However, if in the region between May and November, given the rougher sea conditions, you’d be best suited to grab the surfboard and head out into the water to catch some waves. What is the best time to visit Kamala Beach is a popular tourist destination within Phuket no matter the time of year. Yet, visitors to the region will
Your Handy Nai Harn Beach Guide
Everything you need to know before you visit Nai Harn beach When it comes to beaches in Phuket that remain largely untouched after decades of tourism, yet still possess glorious white sand and crystal clear waters, it is hard to beat Nai Harn Beach. Hidden between lush green hills, Nai Harn has long been a favourite location for both locals and expats and its not difficult to see why. We’ll delve into the reasons why Nai Harn Beach is one of the top things to do in Phuket right now: It’s Never too Busy When you venture to Nai Harn beach you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the space afforded. This includes during the peak season when the majority of beaches throughout Phuket and Thailand are filled to the brim. While December and January at Nai Harn can get a little bit crammed for space, overall, in the high season you’ll comfortably be able to find some space. Plenty of dining options Nothing builds up an appetite more than a day on the beach. Thankfully, Nai Harn Beach and its surrounding streets provide a range of eateries to choose from. The majority of these establishments are located along the beach and shaded by the greenery that surrounds the area. As for which eatery to choose from, the choice really only need come down to which view you prefer as all options provide classic Thai dishes at affordable pricing and are guaranteed to satisfy your hunger. If, however, you are looking for something a little different then we’d highly recommend venturing down to the end of the beach and dining at the Rock Salt restaurant. Located within Nai Harn resort, the food is slightly pricier but well worth the experience as the view is unmatched. If you venture down after sunset then we’d highly encourage you to take a spot on the rooftop bar – a fantastic way to end your day at Nai Harn. Activities around Nai Harn Don’t be worried about having time to spare when traveling to Nai Harn Beach. If the sun gets a little overbearing and you fancy venturing off the beach, you’ll have much to witness in the surrounding area. We’d suggest starting by capturing a glimpse of the region with a Birdseye perspective, with a number of viewpoints recommended to accomplish this feat. You can’t go wrong at the Windmill Viewpoint, or the Black Rock Viewpoint – although be warned that this will require a bit of an effort to reach from Nai Harn Beach – both in travel time, exploration and climbing (so consult Google Maps!). A bit further down the road, the Promthep Cape is well worth a visit. This is especially advantageous in the late afternoon before the sun sets in so that you can witness the greater Phuket region in all its glory in the early evening. The scenery that the Cape provides combined with the beautiful setting sun is impossible to beat. For those looking for a more religious experience, venturing to the nearby Wat Nai Harn Temple will afford the opportunity to open up your spiritual side while feasting your eyes on this historic and gorgeous temple. Where to stay near Nai Harn Due to the close proximity of Nai Harn Beach to many other tourist locales, there are not a vast number of options of places to stay. However, those few options available to tourists are absolutely superb. Some of the best hotels in phuket lie within this region. These include the Nai Harn and the All Seasons and both offer a magnificent stay combined with excellent service. Our pick of the two would be Nai Harn. While we have heard great things about the All Seasons, we can only speak from experience about the former. Nai Harn offers all guests a stunning sea view, with sunsets viewable from the very long balconies that each and every room provides. The restaurants and bar are also first class and well worth leaving you room to dine in during the later hours of the day when looking for some R&R. Stroll around Nai Harn Lake Nai Harn lake is well worth the visit if you are looking for a beautiful walk after a visit to the Nai Harn temple. During the day the lake is used by many runners, in large part due to its flat terrain. At the southern end of the lake you’ll likely find some nice food stalls offering corn on the cob, chicken kebabs and fruit drinks. Also, to the south of the lake sits a large workout area containing a few machines in case you prefer to work out more than just your legs. Nai Harn lake also shines during Loi Kra Thong, a famous Thai event that involves the floating of candlelit flowers on body of waters throughout the Thai region. If you happen to be in Nai Harn during Loi Kra Thong then we highly recommend heading down to the lake in order to take in the masses of candle-lit flowers making their way across the lake. How to get to Nai Harn The journey to Nai Harn can be quite an enjoyable one. It affords visitors to the Nai Harn region with a scenic drive through (and over) lush hills complete with winding corners. If traveling to Nai Harn from the Kata region, you will find some great activities along the way. Most relate to forest adventure and the most common revolve around ATV and motor cross trail riding. From the Phuket Old Town region the journey is much more straightforward and largely uneventful and can be completed in approximately 40 minutes. A small minority travel to Nai Harn from the South (it is so close to the South that the majority come down from the North), yet most of these people will venture up from Rawai. There are 2 ways to get to the Nai Hai Beach from Rawai: Front Route – If you travel this way you’ll drive past
Why Kata Beach is a Must-Visit Location
Why you should visit Kata beach Quite likely the finest beach on Phuket island that can be reached without a boat trip, Kata Beach is a must-see for many tourists who travel to the region. Much like many of her sister beaches throughout Thailand, Kata is blessed with crystal clear water and glistening white sand. These are not uncommon features amongst the hundreds of Thai beaches but there are some major reasons why Kata stands alone as the pre-eminent beach in the Phuket region. So why should Kata beach be at the top of your things to do in Phuket list? Well there are a number of reasons: The Beach itself It’s an obvious statement but it really needs to be said – the reason most venture to kata beach is for the beach itself. Upon arrival, visitors are met with a 1.5 kilometre strip of brilliant white sand that meets crystal clear blue waters that is a pure feast for the eyes. The value of the kata beach region lies in the amount of people that it serves to great satisfaction. The southern end of the beach is ideal for mothers and fathers looking for a massage or a trip to the local shops while the northern end suits those looking for water fun with a range of heart-racing activities ranging from kayaking to scuba diving and everything in between. It’s perfect for Families One of the main reasons that Kata Beach continues to be a winning destination for travelers is thanks to the focus on the young. There is a very deliberate focus from resort managers within the Kata region to provide entertainment and activities specifically designed to entertain the kids. The beach itself provides a lot of natural shade in the late afternoon on the South end of the beach, plus plenty of vendors, making it an ideal place for families to set up camp and ensure child complaints throughout the ‘day of rest’ are kept at a minimum. The glorious weather Kata provides visitors with the most amazing sea conditions for the vast majority of the year. Like every attraction in Phuket, there are times of the year that are more appealing than others (monsoon season is always lower in appeal). However, where Kata separates itself from the pack is due to the bevy of low-season activities on offer as well as the ample areas of cover available along the strip to avoid the short downpours of rain that frequent the monsoon season. With that said, most visitors will find the December through May period the most attractive as the hot conditions make for ideal water temperature and swimming conditions. A laundry list of activities on offer A visit to Kata Beach is guaranteed to provide such a wide range of activities that you will never be bored. At the North end of the beach the activities on offer include surfing, scuba diving and snorkeling. These activities can be enjoyed by all irrespective of their age and/or experience level. At the South end of the beach you will find the drier, less intense activities including shopping, dining and massage. This is why this section of the beach is often the preference of those with young families. Where kata beach really delivers is if you venture slightly off the beach. Within a short distance there is much on offer including the opportunity to soak in the spectacular view from the Karon viewpoint, play Dino Park mini golf, or get up close and personal with local culture at the nearby Kata Temple. It comes alive at night While ideal for the younger members of traveling parties, Kata also provides a number of fun-filled venues for those looking to let their hair down with a couple of drinks once the sun has departed for the day. Over time, Kata has developed the perfect balance between entertainment and relaxation and you’ll find it a lot less hectic than a night out in Patong. This means that you can enjoy some great tunes, great company and not be drowned out with excessive chatter and music allowing you to hold a conversation without screaming at the top of your lungs. That’s not to say that the region doesn’t have Patong-esque venues that offer a hectic night out if that is what you prefer. Guaranteed to satisfy your taste buds Nothing leads to hunger more than a complete day swimming and soaking in the sunshine. This is precisely why the restaurants and eateries surrounding Kata Beach are such an advantage. These aren’t merely the types of establishments that you settle for. These are world-class venues that are guaranteed to satisfy. The Boathouse Phuket is obviously the most well-known of the eateries in the kata region and renowned for the luxurious dining experience that it provides. However, it is not alone and the area affords visitors ample choice including the sensational Kampong Kata Hill (Southeast Asian cuisine) and the Horn Grill Steakhouse (incredible selection of high quality). Wonderful accommodation options One of the most important factors when deciding on places to visit, especially ones that will provide much entertainment, is ensuring that there are a wealth of accommodation options available. Kata beach answers the call thanks to the vast number of high-quality and affordable (especially in the low season) accommodation options that line the entire strip of kata. Kata Beach is featured in our list of best places to stay in Phuket. The best option for a luxury stay is the world famous Boathouse Phuket that not only offers guests a luxurious stay but also a restaurant of tremendously high quality. For those looking at other options in kata, it is hard to beat the beyond resort kata. Previously known as kata beach resort & spa, this hotel sits directly on Kata Beach and affords its guests access to one of 275 stylish rooms with most offering exceptional views of the sea. A memorable experience The visitors that we speak to on our
Top Things to do in Karon Beach
Karon beach Karon Beach Phuket is located on the west coast side of the Island of Phuket. It is a very popular holiday destination in Thailand. It is also one of the longest beaches in Thailand, at third place and is located between the north of Patong and the southern side of Kata. One of the things that makes it very popular is its calming setting which makes it a perfect sport for water sports and activities such as diving and snorkeling. Much as it usually attracts lots of tourists, believe me when I tell you that its large enough to accommodate them as the beach is wide enough, giving enough room for people to spread out without feeling like they are too crowded. At Karon Beach things to do are numerous. But for the sake of this article, we are going to focus on the top 8 things that you can enjoy when you visit this large, popular beach. The Top 8 things to do near Karon Beach 1) Chill at the beach at every opportunity Ok, ok, we know that there are many beaches throughout the Phuket region that you can relax on but what makes it special? Well for starters Karon Beach is perfectly located within short distance of urban life yet venture down to the beach and you wouldn’t know you were so close to the hustle and the bustle of the city. This provides you with the opportunity to soak in the sunshine in perfect peace yet walk back into town for a bite to eat. 2) Head out to the Phi Phi Islands on a boat tour Glancing out from Karon Beach out of the waters will no doubt leave your mind wandering to other nearby destinations that provide ideal water conditions and activities. One of the most spectacular things to do in the region is visit the Phi Phi Islands and this is only possible by boat. That is because there are many well worth it things to do in Phi Phi Island. The Phi Phi Islands are an island group located between the coast of Phuket and the Straits of Malacca coast. The most well-known of the Islands is Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Le and these are the islands most people are itching to visit. As mentioned previously, entry by boat is the only option and this is achieved either by ferry or speedboat. For those looking for an exclusive, intimate experience – ferries are out. Therefore, a speed boat is your best bet in order to experience the region the way that nature intended – early and in quiet comfort. Simba Sea Trips provides a tour of the region that ensures you’ll see the Phi Phi Islands in comfort and largely in the absence of crowds. You can book a Phi Phi Sunrise tour with Simba to ensure you don’t miss out on this incredible experience. 3) Pamper yourself with a relaxing massage You can’t help but feel relaxed while in the Karon Beach region, but what better way to elevate that feeling than with a tranquil massage. While a traditional Thai massage is definitely something to consider, we would recommend an aromatherapy oil massage. During an aromatherapy massage, you either inhale essential oils or they can also be absorbed through the skin. Most massage parlours in the region provide this service and offer a diverse menu of services including standard massage and facial therapies. 4) Go visit the Karon Temple Make sure to extract yourself from the beach for long enough to go and explore the Karon Temple, situated a short distance away. The Temple’s main building features two large Nagas (snakes) whose bodies wrap around the entire building. One of the other major buildings is protected by Yak, these are weird looking blue monsters that are commonly featured in old Buddhist texts to keep the images of Buddha safe from harm by warding off spirits. You’ll commonly see Buddhist Monks working in the garden or around the grounds to ensure the temple remains clean and tidy. 5) Time your Temple visit with the Temple Market opening hours The Karon Temple Market is well worth visiting and contains a large amount of street food as well as souvenirs. In addition, there are a large amount of bugs available to try if you are willing to expand your palette and try something a little different. The Market opens every Tuesday and Saturday from late in the afternoon until close to Midnight so make sure to add it to your calendar! 6) Engage in some Water Sports Maybe you’ve been relaxing all day in the comfortable beach surrounds but you feel like getting your heart pumping? Well you are in luck because Karon Beach affords tourists with plenty of activities to pass the time. Just some of the activities that you can undertake include: SUP Paddle Kayaking Snorkeling Parasailing All of the above are activities that can be accomplished thanks to the crystal clear calm waters. Without doubt our favourite is taking out some snorkeling gear and dipping your head underwater while navigating around the rocks at the south end of the beach. 7) Hike up for a spectacular view The Karon Viewpoint offers a spectacular view of Karon Beach and the surrounding areas. It is a bit of a hike to reach the viewpoint but it is well worth a visit. You’ll need to trek approximately 6 kilometres to reach it but take some water with you and quench your thirst while beholding the sight before you. If 6 kilometres seems a bit too far of a journey by foot, you can reach the viewpoint by car. The trip by car might not burn the same calories but the view will be spectacular so who cares about burning calories anyways!? 8) Day Trip to Phuket Town While the Karon Beach area is bound to provide enough entertainment, especially if you are able to book a tour out to
Monkey Hill Phuket
Day Trip to Monkey Hill Phuket One of the most commonly sought after activities while in Thailand is a day trip to Monkey Hill Phuket. Let’s be honest, a major draw card when holidaying in the region is to witness monkeys up close and personal. Many of the travelers who venture to the Phuket region are coming from locations where monkeys are not inhabiting (such as Australia, England and the USA) and therefore have not witnessed monkeys in the flesh. This is where Monkey Hill comes into play. This popular attraction affords visitors with the opportunity to trek up to a location where monkeys are rife. Enabling tourists with the chance to interact with wild monkeys up close. Where is Monkey Hill Located Monkey Hill, known to the locals as Khao To Sae, is an extension of Toe Sae Road and can be reached easily. The most common route to the hill is via Thepkasattri Road. If travelling up Theapkasattri Road, turn left following Phuket Prison. This places you onto Toe Sae Road and in perfect position to either park your car and hike up to the top of the hill, or to take the car directly to the top. Please be aware: The road to the top of the hill is closed to motor vehicle traffic between the hours of 5pm and 8pm. Walking up the Hill For the best experience, consider walking up monkey hill phuket in order to maximize the experience. Walking up the hill is a fair hike, and the distance from bottom to top is approximately 3.5 kilometres. Doing so it will be one of the best sunset view points in Phuket region. Contrary to popular belief the best views are experienced on the walk up the Hill and not at the top as the views from the summit are obscured by an excess of antennas and satellites. In addition, travelling to the top by foot allows you to wander shoulder to shoulder with the monkeys but make sure to keep a firm grasp on your wallet (and especially your food) as monkeys are notorious for their thievery. The walk up monkey hill begins with a shady section that affords you with shelter from the sun. This is vitally important in the summer months in particular when the hot summer sun can become quite unbearable. Despite the initial gradual incline it does angle up quite significantly as you progress and can be quite difficult for those that are not in great shape. So if you have been experiencing health issues or are carrying a niggling injury or two then a scooter might be a better option. Riding a Scooter up the Hill The benefits of travelling up Monkey Hill phuket on a scooter aren’t just for those that are older or experiencing minor injuries that would make the hill climb uncomfortable. It is also highly beneficial for those that are looking to reach the summit quickly and also for those keen to avoid sweating it out in the humidity. Best Time to visit the Monkeys While the Hill can be visited at any time during the day, generally you’ll not be spending the entire day up there so you’ll want to trek up at a time that allows you to get other activities done during the day. Whether you have a trip to Patong Road, Big Buddha or other Things to do in Phuket will likely dictate the time of day you’ll be visiting. We suggest that the best time if you have other plans for the day is late in the afternoon after the hottest part of the day has passed. This allows you to trek up and not worry about the heat and the humidity as all your activities prior to a return to the hotel or hostel have been achieved. Conversely, you could also trek up Monkey Hill during the early morning hours before the sun is at its most potent. What should you bring with you We’d highly recommend bringing some essentials with you on your trip to Monkey Hill. Based on our experience, the items that we would consider essential include: Water – this is due to limited opportunities to purchase items on the walk up to the peak First Aid essentials – this is a no-brainer for any nature trek as the possibility of injury is always there Smartphone or a Camera – duh! Of course, you’ll want to take some photos to catalogue your experience (make sure to keep an eye on these items and a firm grasp as the Monkeys will be curious) Money – you won’t need much but it is also handy to carry some in case you misplace/forget your water or anything else that you may have forgotten Bananas and/or Nuts – In order to draw the monkeys closer of course. It’s best to buy these at the bottom of the hill especially if you are walking up What are the Monkeys like? In one word – cheeky. At the end of the day these little critters are wild animals so you must remember to be extra careful around them. But with that said, there is definitely nothing to worry about in terms of safety. Just make sure that your valuables are kept safe and secure. As wild animals, they’ll often fight and scrap but this is natural behaviour and nothing that should concern you. They are just monkeys being monkeys. You’ll see a wide range in the age of monkeys on Monkey Hill – from young, to grown up and the elderly. One thing to consider is to leave any monkeys alone that are carrying a child as, like most mothers, they can be protective and as such you should afford them their space. In Conclusion Monkey Hill Phuket is definitely well worth visiting and likely to provide you with fantastic memories of the region. The chance to get up close and personal with these magnificent animals is a rare opportunity and
